Body brushing has been sold as everything from a detox to a cellulite cure. The truth is simpler and still worth your time. Done right, it leaves skin smoother, softer and ready for everything you put on next.

We make the Body Brush, a soft silicone brush built for the shower, so here is the honest version of what body brushing does and how to do it.

What body brushing really does

The firm, proven benefit is exfoliation. Sweeping a brush over the skin lifts away dull, dead surface cells, which leaves skin looking brighter and feeling noticeably smoother straight away.

Clearer skin also means your moisturiser and self tan go on more evenly. Keeping the surface clear can help with the odd body breakout too, since you are not leaving dead skin to sit over pores.

Wet or dry, and why silicone

Traditional dry brushing is done on bare skin before a shower. Our brush is designed for use in the shower with your usual wash, which suits sensitive skin and is an easy habit to keep.

Silicone is the reason it is so low maintenance. It is non porous, dries fast and rinses clean, so it holds far less bacteria and mould than a natural bristle brush. The soft tips flex, so the exfoliation is gentle rather than scratchy.

The honest word on cellulite

Let us be clear, because the internet is not. Body brushing does not get rid of cellulite. Cellulite sits in the fat and connective tissue below the skin, which a surface brush simply cannot reach.

What you may notice is a short lived smoother, plumper look right after brushing, from the boost in surface blood flow. It is real, it is nice, and it fades within hours. Enjoy it for what it is.

How to body brush well

Keep it simple. Use light, repeated strokes, generally moving up the limbs towards the heart, and go gently over softer areas. There is no need to scrub.

Two to three times a week is plenty for most skin. More than that risks leaving skin irritated rather than smooth. Follow with a good moisturiser while skin is still damp.

Why the Body Brush

It is fully waterproof and made for in shower use, with soft silicone that deep cleans and massages every part of the body. It is easy to hold, easy to rinse and easy to keep hygienic.

Like every GESKE device, it is backed by our 15 year guarantee.

The honest version

Body brushing will not detox you or erase cellulite, and it does not need to. Smoother, brighter feeling skin a few times a week is a lovely return for a couple of minutes in the shower.
