We are the in house skin and beauty tech team at GESKE. We write about app guided devices and the routines that get the most from them, in plain English and without the hype.

A facial cleansing brush is one of the easiest upgrades to a routine, and one of the easiest to get wrong. Used well, it leaves skin properly clean and soft. Used too hard, it can do the opposite.

We make the SmartAppGuided Sonic Facial Brush, so here is how to get the good version, plus how often to use it and which skin types it suits.

Why a cleansing brush, not just your hands

Fingers do a decent job, but they cannot match the gentle, high speed movement of a sonic brush. Those soft vibrations help lift away the day, makeup, sunscreen, oil and grime, more thoroughly than hands alone.

Silicone is the quiet hero here. Unlike old fashioned bristle heads, soft silicone is non porous, so it does not hold onto bacteria, and it rinses clean in seconds. That makes it kinder to blemish prone and sensitive skin.

How to use one, step by step

Wet your face and the brush, then apply a normal gel or cream cleanser. Avoid gritty scrubs with it, the brush is the gentle exfoliation.

Glide it in small circles, about twenty seconds across each area of the face. Let the brush carry the rhythm, and keep your touch feather light.

Rinse, pat dry and carry on with your serum and moisturiser. Give the brush a quick rinse after each use and stand it somewhere airy to dry.

How often should you use it

Start with once a day, in the evening, to clear the day away. Many people are happy there. If your skin is robust you can build up, but more is not always better.

If you use retinoids or acids, ease off the brush on those nights. Redness or tightness that lingers is your cue to slow down. A soft daily pass will always outperform an occasional scrub.

Who it suits

Most skin types get on well with a soft silicone brush, including sensitive and oily skin. It is a kind way to keep pores looking clear and skin feeling smooth.

If you have active, inflamed breakouts or a flaring skin condition, go gently or check with a professional first. The brush cleanses and refreshes. It is not a treatment for a skin condition.
